$300,000 in funding support to The Cottage

IN A bid to help support drug and alcohol services in the Goulburn Valley, the Liberal Nationals Government has announced it would be investing $300,000 in The Cottage.

The funding will be delivered over three years commencing in 2019/20 to support The Cottage’s rehabilitation programs and will also go toward subsidising the admission fee for residents, making it accessible to more of the community.

The Cottage residents have an average stay of 53 days, and are linked with a range of other local health services.

Federal Member for Murray, Damian Drum said, “So many families in the Goulburn Valley are dealing with the scourge of drug and alcohol addiction, and are feeling helpless in the plight of their family member or friend.

“The Cottage and its unique approach is proving to be a successful step on the way back to rehabilitation for many of the afflicted, the positive effects of which will be felt across the community.

“Now that this significant amount of funding has been secured, The Cottage can continue to deliver programs that assist those with substance abuse challenges,” Mr Drum said.

The Cottage company secretary, Rob Bryant said, “For the Shepparton regional community who have wanted some form of treatment for addiction, a chronic health challenge Australia wide, this announcement is great news. This contribution will see wider access to our program for people who want to break the cycle of addiction.”
