$58M pledge to curb youth unemployment

WITH the election looming, pledges have already begun with Prime Minister, Scott Morrison promising a $58M plan to curb youth unemployment and Shepparton has been targeted.

As part of the plan, 10 training hubs will be established in areas with the highest youth unemployment, including Shepparton, Townsville, Burnie, Gosford and Grafton.

The hubs will work with local schools and employers to identify skills demands and encourage students to sign up for vocational training.

The $58M will also include 400 Vocational Education and Training (VET) scholarships. Worth up to $17,500 each, the scholarships will be open to people aged 15 to 24 in the chosen locations to study from certificate III to advanced diploma level.

With the Shepparton region being named as having the second highest youth unemployment rate in Victoria, at 17.5 percent, the pledge couldn’t come at a more needed time.
