A boost to disability employees’ skills

FOUR employees at ConnectGV have been given the chance to upskill thanks to funding provided through the Victorian Government’s Regional Specialist Training Fund.

ConnectGV, in partnership with GOTAFE, has been working to increase the scope of allied health support it offers under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), in a bid to provide better quality and more diverse services for its clients.

GOTAFE interim executive director of education, Louise Pearce said ConnectGV worked with GOTAFE to develop the training after the opportunity was identified to upskill their staff and provide a much-needed allied health service to the region.

“We have had an ongoing partnership with ConnectGV for a number of years,” Ms Pearce said.

“We already understood their needs, so when this opportunity arose through the Regional and Specialist Training Fund we knew ConnectGV would be interested.

“Four ConnectGV employees began their training in August and upon successful completion of the course will gain their (HLT43015) Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance qualifications. This will enable them to provide much-needed support to clients in regional areas.”

ConnectGV CEO, Carolynne Young said, “We were pleased when GOTAFE was able to not only facilitate the training but also offer reduced fees for employees of Connect GV.

“The opportunity to upskill our staff means ConnectGV can provide improved living in the form of therapeutic assistance to our clients under the NDIS.”
