A cooking experience like no other

Photo: Alicia Zeqir.LOCAL cooking and hospitality students at Shepparton’s GOTAFE were treated to an experience like no other last week, when Chef, Restaurateur and television star, Tobie Puttock helped to kick of the first GOTAFE Covers Restaurant Masterclass for 2013.
More than 100 guests were treated to a five course menu prepared and served by GOTAFE students under the guidance of Tobie, who brought his wealth of experience from working in some of the world’s best restaurants as well as world class chef skills, to the students.
Tobie Puttock specialises in Italian cooking having spent many years perfecting his Italian culinary skills whilst living abroad. He has worked at a number of acclaimed restaurants including the world famous River Café in London, where he worked with and became friends with Jamie Oliver. He later became Head Chef of the first Fifteen Restaurant, teaching under-privileged young people how to become Chefs.
GOTAFE Manager Hospitality, Ross Graham said, “GOTAFE is very fortunate to have a chef of Tobie’s calibre visit Shepparton. His knowledge, experience and his passion working with youth make him a perfect guest chef to teach our students.
“Tobie shared with the students various Italian techniques of cooking to prepare a five course menu and the front-of-house hospitality students served each course matching it with local wines, giving them valuable experience serving to more than 100 guests,” Ross said.
Further Masterclass dinners are scheduled for this year on both Wednesday, June 26 and Tuesday, August 20.
