The beginning of October saw the start of spring, as well as the beginning of the new Shepparton Athletics Club. Created for people of all ages, the Shepparton Athletics Club saw a huge turnout for their launch day on Sunday, October 6.

Aunty Faye and Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe started official proceedings with welcome to country and helped to launch the club, while life member of Shepparton Athletics, Arthur Bence, was represented by his son Richard to cut the ribbon. With their new uniform unveiled, new members and athletes hit the field to test out their skills and enjoy the action.

The athletics season has now officially begun with training on Tuesday nights and competition on Friday nights from 6pm.

Shepparton Athletics Club president, Doug Cobbledick said, “We have a good mix of new and established athletes. The first three weeks of competition have been designed to allow us to find our way, to get a feel for what our members want.

“We’d also like to thank Greater Shepparton Connected Community for funding to purchase new hurdles for the club. There are exciting times ahead as we build the future of our club.”

If you’re interested in joining, visit Shepparton Athletics Club Facebook page or head to a training session on Tuesday nights to test out your skills.
