THE Nationals Candidate for Shepparton, Greg Barr has just formally announced his defeat in the race for the seat of Shepparton.
Suzanna Sheed will formally be announced as Member for Shepparton after the final recount of votes has been undertaken, which is expected to be completed tomorrow.
In a statement released to media, Greg stated that due to the distribution of preferences now being at an advanced stage it was apparent that he could not win the election for the seat of Shepparton and therefore formally conceded defeat.
“I congratulate Suzanna Sheed on winning the seat of Shepparton and wish her all the best in her new role as the Member for Shepparton.
“I would like to thank my family who provided enormous support to me throughout the campaign, my campaign team, The Nationals MPs and grass roots Party members, supporters, everyone who helped on Election Day and most importantly those people who entrusted their vote to me.
“I would like to acknowledge the absolute commitment of The Leader of The Nationals Peter Ryan to Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley more generally.
“Lastly I would like to pay tribute to Jeanette Powell, who dedicated 18 years to the Parliament of Victoria and served the Shepparton District with great distinction. Jeanette has been a fantastic mentor, a great friend and a passionate advocate for the Shepparton region.”
