THERE’s excitement, anticipation and a sense of the unknown for athletes across Shepparton as the new Shepparton Athletics Club heads toward their launch day.
Athletes of the Goulburn Valley have enjoyed Little Athletics for years but sadly without a local avenue to continue into senior athletics. The new Shepparton Athletics Club will provide athletics in the Goulburn Valley with what they’ve been missing for some time.
To celebrate, the committee has been working hard organising a special launch day for Sunday, October 6. With gates opening at 12:30pm ahead of the official opening at 1pm, the launch event will provide an opportunity for the new club to launch their uniform, announce the winner of the logo design competition, and for community members to receive information on the new club.
At the launch event, there will also be clinics, fun novelty events, face painting and a jumping castle to keep the little ones entertained. Players from the Shepparton District Junior Football League will also be competing in a sprint event to find out who is the fastest footy player in the region.
Following the official proceedings, community members will be welcomed to take part and test their skills in a mix of athletics events and see if they can perform like their favourite Olympic hero.
Shepparton Athletics Club president, Doug Cobbledick said, “We are ready to run and we invite the community to join us to celebrate our launch day.
“No one should feel that they couldn’t try athletics and everyone has their own ability. If you have a fitness goal or if you’re a past athlete, current athlete, or even if you’ve never tried athletics before, the Shepparton Athletics Club is going to be attractive to you.”
