GREATER Shepparton City Council CEO, Phil Pearce has announced his resignation effective from July 15 after his second year in the position.
Making the announcement last week, Mr Pearce revealed his decision comes after he was approached by a recruiting company in April seeking him for the General Manager’s role at City of Newcastle Council.
He will commence the role August 1.
“I hadn’t been looking for other positions but when this opportunity was presented to me it was one I couldn’t say no to,” Mr Pearce said.
“The sustainability of Council’s finances and assets means the organisation is in very good shape,” he said, confident of its position for future growth.
“I’ve also been pleased to oversee the lake redevelopment, ensure we’ve got robust financial management systems in place and elevate the discussion around issues, such as the need for improved passenger rail services to Shepparton, to a meaningful level with the State Government.”
Greater Shepparton Deputy Mayor, Michael Polan said Council was disappointed at the news but appreciated the professional opportunities Mr Pearce’s appointment presented.
Before his appointment to Shepparton City, Mr Pearce was CEO of Mildura Rural City and Campaspe Shire councils.
Councillors met yesterday to discuss the appointment of a new CEO and criteria for the position.
