The Tatura Library is currently undergoing a $2M redevelopment to expand and upgrade the existing facilities. Lots of curious children walk past the construction site every day on their way to kindergarten and childcare, so they were very excited when they got to have a look inside.

Tatura Community Cubby House and Tatura Children’s Centre took groups of children for a visit to the site where they got to see first-hand how the workers from BLR Provincial Construction did their job. They saw big machinery and concrete being poured, as well as having site supervisor, Ian Jones, explain the process to them.

“Tatura Library is a great asset to the local community, having the children involved and to see the excitement on their faces was priceless. Children always love to learn about building and construction machinery, especially when they can hear them operating over their adjoining fence. We are thankful the contractors and parents have enabled us to involve the children as part of the building process”, said Greater Shepparton City Council director community, Kaye Thomson.

Features of the new library will include extending the building, which will double the floor space, a children’s area, teenage space and will provide a quality, modern public library service. The $2M will be made up of $1.3M from Greater Shepparton City Council, $600,000 from Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, $80,000 from community fundraising and $20,000 from Goulburn Valley Libraries.

Completion of the new Tatura Library is expected to be in July 2020. A pop-up library has opened at 155A Hogan Street, Tatura (opposite the Post Office) until the new facilities are opened.
