Community ahead of business

WHILE many of the cadre of candidates look towards the Greater Shepparton City Council elections as an expression of business acumen, Steve Neff’s approach is simpler. His view is it is about community and how Council can help overcome some of the difficulties ordinary people are facing.

As a case manager looking out for families at Rumbalara, Mr Neff sees the desperation many people in the community have to face on a day-to-day basis. That message gets amplified with his work as a Lifeline volunteer, reaching out to people who contemplate ending their lives.

“Life has been difficult for many people in the past and COVID has made it worse,” Mr Neff said.

“My family has one income and like many other families and we don’t have a budget for making signs or promoting my candidacy other than writing letters to the editor.”

Having grown up in Shepparton and worked for a number of years in community assistance, Mr Neff understands the lower reaches of society and how they are left out of the discussion. He wants to rectify that.
