SERVICING the local community for almost three years as a joint initiative between Justice of the Peace and local police, volunteer Justices of the Peace (JPs) are providing a much needed service at the Shepparton Police Station on Welsford Street, signing a range of legal documents on week days between the hours of 9am to 1pm or 1pm to 5pm.
Provided as a free service for people within the community who are looking to have documents signed in the form of Statutory Declarations, Affidavits and certifaication of true copies of documents, the signing centre is becoming a more widely used service as application numbers skyrocket.
Coordinator of Justice of the Peace Signing Centre, Bruce Milne JP said for the year 2011 JP volunteers spent 961 hours at the Shepparton Police Station where they dealt with 11,248 documents for the 2,467 members of the community.
“The JPs who provide their time at Shepparton Police Station are mostly retired persons, many having other interests such as golf and bowls and as long as they are able to retain that lifestyle they contently provide their services to the program.
“JPs get a lot of satisfaction in providing a service to the public at a centrally located area and encourage more people to make use of the voluntary service, ” Bruce said.
Currently documents can be signed at the Shepparton Justice Service Centre (The old Australia Post offices) on Wyndham Street or at the signing centre within the Shepparton Police Station. Information from the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry will soon be processed at both locations. For further information or enquiries contact Bruce Milne on 5822 2778 or at
