BETTER Local Government, a lobby group that formed over concerns of Greater Shepparton City Council management practises earlier this year will host its first public meeting tomorrow night.
Group member, former City of Shepparton Mayor, Murray Slee says the event will be the most important meeting in the area’s history with the future of the municipality in the balance.
“This isn’t about personalities, we’re not having a go at Councillors,” Mr Slee said.
“We are concerned about how Council is operating, its efficiency and its management of funds. That’s what we’ll be talking about. Something has to be done about it.”
The group say they believe Council has hidden important financial and budget information and has failed to communicate appropriately about key projects with its ratepayers.
As a result, they want to form an advisory board for Councillors to turn to.
Members of the community are invited to attend the meeting to be held at 7.30pm on Thursday, August 25 at Goulburn Valley Hotel. Councillors will be in attendance.
