IN recognition and celebration of the great achievements of inspirational women in our region, the Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Alliance Advisory Committee (GSWCACC) is encouraging members of the Greater Shepparton community to nominate an inspirational woman for the 2015 Victorian Honour Roll of Women.
The Committee, which is made up of volunteers, aims to increase women’s participation in key decision making forums in the community and in democratic governance.
Previous Victorian Honour Roll of Women inductees from the local area include Mary Atkinson (deceased) for her leadership in Aboriginal education, Frances Mathyssen for her leadership in Indigenous community affairs, Vicki Mitsos for the support she provided for ethnic communities, Margo Koskelainen for her involvement in women’s sport and Rien Silverstein for providing much needed support for rural women.
GSWCAAC Member, Kate Montgomery believes it would be great to see more women from the local community nominated.
“The Greater Shepparton community has many women who have made a real difference and who are inspirational in their efforts to contribute to the wider community.
“The Victorian Honour Roll for Women is a great way to acknowledge the achievements of women who have made a tangible contribution. Previous inductees are inspirational role models to us all.”
Applications can be made online at www.dhs.vic.gov.au/womenshonourroll and nominations close at 5pm on Friday, September 5.
