Located close to the business centre and adjacent to the Greater Shepparton City Council offices, Princess Park has a tired look about it for a growing inner city’s recreation reserves.

To that end, Spiire Consultants have been commissioned to apply makeup to the park to make it more amenable to the public that gets to use it now and into the future.

Included in the plans are an additional oval, upgrades to the netball courts with two new courts to international standard, the inclusion of a dog park as well as the preparation of a paved parking area suitable for more than 130 cars.

Also included is a running track that will provide an alternative to the busy track located around Victoria Lake.

With the growth being experienced in the city, having access to a well-established sports and recreation field so close is long overdue.

The list of improvements is extensive and it should become one of the premier recreation places in the city.

As yet, there are no indications as to when the works might begin, the sooner the better might be the case.

While the council looks at projects such as Princess Park, other projects equally important to the community are slipping through the cracks.

Concerning carparking in the CBD, parking has not been discussed at the last two council meetings, yet received universally popular support for free parking as measured by the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
