Five local workmates win a share of $1 million

After playing the same syndicate for three years in a row, a group of five local Shepparton workmates are celebrating the news of their private syndicate scoring a division one prize worth $1 million.

The group held one of four division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 3971, which was drawn on Saturday, August 10. Each winner takes home a division one prize of $1,017,643.37.

The local syndicate, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry from Shepparton Plaza Lotto.

Sharing his joy with a Tatts official, the syndicate leader said the local group celebrated the news by gathering together for a coffee, recounting their win.

“There are five of us from work who throw $10 into a bank account every fortnight which we use to buy our entries every fortnight,” he explained.

“One of the girls in the syndicate checked their ticket on Saturday night and then called everyone to let us all know. We were all pretty excited and had to get together for a coffee to celebrate the news.”

When quizzed on how they’d spend the prize money, the syndicate leader revealed that many in the group hadn’t had the chance to contemplate the win.

“I think everyone is just letting the news sink in and waiting for the money to land in the bank account,” he said.

“I do know one thing: it certainly won’t go to waste! I’ll probably use it to pay off some bills and then go from there!”

Across Australia, there were four division one winning entries, two from Victoria and one each from Queensland and South Australia.
