IT’S wonderful to see new and varied restaurants in Shepparton and I can’t help but feel a sense of pride when I tell people about what Shepparton has to offer. With it’s gorgeous design, Anaya Restaurant and Tapas Bar brings a vibrancy to the street that is quite beautiful. Pronounced An-eye -ya…the name Anaya has two very significant meanings.
Anaya Restaurant and Tapas Bar chef and business owner, Karan Bisht said, “I have worked for 10 years in the industry, traveling many places in my job and at my last workplace, Hellenic Republic in Kew, I came to understand what was very important to me in relation to food. The notion of ‘freedom’ in my menu and ‘care’ in my preparations. Anaya is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘freedom’ and in Urdu Anaya means ‘care’, so I named my restaurant Anaya after my core values in relation to food.
“Freedom is expressed in providing a tapas style service, with a menu that changes to suit produce and which is intended for sharing. Care comes in the preparation and service of food as well as taking supply and sustainability into consideration. Our ‘care’ philosophy leads us to choose local suppliers and to be mindful of how our waste and energy usage affects the environment.”
I personally have eaten at Anaya and can recommend it. With three levels, there is a basement restaurant with a window at street level, which reminds me something you’d see in London. There is a bar and above that a lounge.
