Future of SPC critical

HIGHLIGHTING the significant challenges faced by the region’s fruit producers currently, National Member for Murray Valley, Tim McCurdy tabled with Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, Peter Walsh the situation faced by local producers after the review of operations at the SPC Ardmona cannery in Shepparton was announced.
While in Parliament last week, Mr McCurdy and Minister Walsh discussed the serious ramifications of SPC Ardmona cannery parent company, Coca Cola Amatil’s intention to consider taking some operations off shore.
Minister Walsh said he will meet with SPC executives during June to find out their intentions and the major issues they see for them in the future, stating SPC is critical to the future of all North East Victoria.
“I’m looking forward to sitting down with the executives to discuss their concerns and how we, as a Government might be able to work with them to make sure there is a bright future for them, their suppliers and the community they provide jobs into,” Mr Walsh said.
