IT was a close game during the weekend’s AFL Victoria Country Championships match, but the Geelong Football Netball League (GFNL) proved too strong for the local Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL), taking the win 12.30-102 to 9.13-67.
GFNL took the lead early, with the trend continuing throughout the match, but hope shone through at half time, with the GVFL leading by 14 points but the success was short lived, with the team only scoring two more goals for the rest of the game.
At three quarter time, GFNL had taken the lead by 17 points and in true fashion took the game by 35 points at the final siren, taking the title of top ranking side in country Victoria for the third year in a row.
GVFL has now dropped back to third in the AFL Victoria Country Championships.
