SCHOOL is going to be getting a lot more fun for students at Bourchier Street Primary School this year, thanks to a delivery of brand new sporting equipment from Coles ‘Sports for Schools’.
As the biggest program of its kind in Australia, Coles Sports for Schools encourages Coles customers to collect Sports for Schools vouchers when they shop in store or online.
Now, as official sponsors for the Australian Olympic team for London 2012, Coles are turning the vouchers into opportunities, exchanging vouchers for sporting equipment and creating more chances for students to get active and engage sports at a grassroots level.
Over the course of the 2011 program, friends and family of students at Bourchier Street Primary School in Shepparton rallied round and collected 61,840 Sports for Schools vouchers, which the school exchanged for six table tennis tables and kits.
Across Victoria, 63,228 individual pieces of equipment, totalling more than $2.1million are currently being delivered to 2,265 schools by Coles Sports for Schools.
Coles Shepparton Store Manager, Scott Jackson said, “We’ve seen a fantastic response to Coles Sports for Schools in Shepparton this year. With the London Olympics just around the corner, it’s exciting to see the local community come together to support schools like Bourchier Street Primary School. By creating more opportunities for kids to have fun getting active we might even discover the Olympians of the future!”
Judy Park, Principal at Bourchier Street Primary School said, “We’re  extremely grateful to the local community for rallying together and collecting the Coles Sports for Schools vouchers. The kids are so excited about the arrival of their new sports equipment and can’t wait to start using it, what a fantastic addition to PE (Physical Education)!”
