For some 5,000 students across the several GOTAFE campuses, this last week marked their orientation week, a chance to get familiar with the layout of the campus and to be guided through some of the many intricacies that tend to go along with tertiary education.

A number of service organisations from across Shepparton ranging from GMCU, to Connect GV, GV Community Legal Centre, Centrelink and dozens of others set up stands to provide basic information and advice to the incoming students.

It was a chance for them to get to know life at a level that offers more individual independence they may have been used to date. Some of the returning hospitality students were on hand to prepare a multicultural lunch for the incoming students.

GOTAFE Shepparton has almost two thirds of the new students starting a new course. Director of Student Success, Dr Nicky van der Bergh was on hand to welcome the new students and have some past students provide some insight into some of the things they might expect over the next couple of years.
