Local and regional fruit and vegetables are in huge demand according to local fruiter and business owner, Sammy Rachele.

If ever there was a positive from Coronavirus, Goulburn Valley fruit and vegetable growers are experiencing a big lift in demand and prices, with the Sydney and Brisbane fresh produce markets chasing our goods.

Demand at our local fruit and vegetable shops is also huge with panic buying.

Proprietor of Finer Fruit Shepparton, Sammy Rachele, hasn’t seen anything like it, exceeding Christmas trading, not in one day but several days. “Local growers should do well,” Sammy said.

“Shoppers are even buying perishables such as cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant and broccoli.

“Potatoes and onions are also selling at a huge rate, because you can store them for longer,” Sammy said.

“We’re in the peak of stone fruit season and apples extend through to April, giving local growers a good boost in difficult times,” Sammy said.

He hadn’t seen prices for produce like this in his lifetime, but Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley were up to supplying the best produce in the nation.
