Homeless and vulnerable

Dear Editor,

Congratulations to our council Mayor, Kim O’Keeffe and her amazing team of dedicated community leaders on bringing to light the very important and serious issues of the homeless and vulnerable in our community at the fundraiser held on Sunday, July 28.

The information and statistics provided to the many in attendance are of great concern and it is not someone else’s problem, it is the whole community’s problem and we all need to become inbolved and proactive. A very important statement made was, that the word community reflects ‘common unity’ and this is what is required to address these issues.

There is no doubt that good and effective work is being done but there is much more needed and urgently, as we have the highest percentage of homeless and vulnerable outside the Melbourne area. Let’s all get motivated and working to resolve these many issues.

I must ask though, where were all of our other elected councillors? Yes, Sunday for many is a family day, but one day out of the year to support such an urgent problem, is that too much to ask?

Yours sincerely,

M Highland
