How far on track is Shepparton’s fast rail?

IT SEEMS that there is a lot of talk on the Fast Rail Network, and this should come as no surprise being an election year. A recent Liberals National Government announcement will see them drop $8M into funding a business case for a network between Albury-Wodonga and Melbourne. But where are we at with the Shepparton line?

Federal Member for Murray, Damian Drum said, “As a first step towards this (the Shepparton) plan, in the 2017-18 budget the government invested $20M in faster rail business cases for Sydney to Newcastle, Melbourne to Greater Shepparton and Brisbane to the regions of Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast. These business cases are due to be completed in mid-2019.

“Shepparton is growing as a regional capital and the current rail travel times are not meeting our community’s needs, and they certainly won’t meet our needs in the future.

“The results of the fast rail business case for the Goulburn Valley are due in mid-2019 and we look forward to receiving the results, so we can continue working towards a better future public transport network.”
