MAINS TO BE REPLACED… Old and troubled water mains along Balaclava Road are being replaced, with interruptions expected over the coming seven weeks.

HAVING experienced several bursts over the past five years, water mains along Balaclava Road are being replaced, with works expected to be carried out over the coming seven weeks and some homes to experience disruptions.
As part of Goulburn Valley Water’s (GVW) extensive water main replacement program, the works will significantly reduce the number of bursts and improve the reliability of supply to customers.
The first stage of work will be on the south side of Balaclava Road between Numurkah Road and Dunkirk Avenue. When completed, 530m of water main along the south side of Balaclava Road will have been replaced. These new mains will be located under nature strips and open trenches will be dug to accommodate the works.
Project Manager, Rizwan Qamar said it is hoped construction of the new water mains will cause minimal disruption to residents in the area.
“The proximity of the above works to Bourchier Street Primary School and Dolena Young Pre-School means that work will likely impact student movement. GVW would like to ask staff and parents to ensure students are aware of the risks of maintenance activities, as there will be machinery on site and open trenches will be dug along many nature strips.
“Traffic conditions will also change during the works period. GVW recommends parents and students take alternate routes during the works period to avoid the work sites.
“Contractors will generally be on site between 7am and 4pm, week days. “Pedestrians should remain clear of the works to ensure their safety at all times and avoid the site during work hours where possible.
“It is not expected that water supply will be affected during the works period however, traffic management services will be engaged to manage traffic flow around the works area, particularly along Balaclava Road.
“Drivers are advised to find an alternate route where possible to ensure minimal disruption to traffic.
“Customers directly affected by the excavation works will be formally notified.”
Customers wishing to provide feedback on their water supply or these works should contact the GVW 24 hour Customer Service Centre on 1800 454 500.
