GV Health is inviting the assistance of community members to fill vital voluntary roles in and around the hospital.
Local Shepparton resident, Frank Mathot has been a volunteer with GV Health for six years and says if you like getting out in the community and working with people then you’ll get a lot out of the role.
Mr Mathot said, “I’ll go around on a Monday morning and see all of the elderly patients and have a quick talk and a ‘hello how are you’, it’s just that contact that is so enjoyable.”
Mr Mathot fulfils a number of voluntary duties within his role including directing people around the hospital facilities, selling newspapers on the wards, helping patients with their luggage and he says, “being able to natter is a very important part of the job.”
“My favourite part is simply bantering and throwing lines between all different kinds of people, it provides a little light hearted relief.”
GV Health Fundraising and Community Relations Specialist, Emma Burgess said, “Volunteers play a pivotal role within GV Health and contribute to enhancing the quality of service for our patients and hospital visitors. We currently have a variety of opportunities for community members wishing to partake in the GV Health volunteer program.”
To provide more information to interested persons, GV Health will host two free information sessions on Monday, August 22 at 10am and Tuesday, August 23 at 3pm. For further queries, contact Emma Burgess on 5832 2768 or email [email protected]
