It is going to be a hot one

We all are probably aware that this beautiful spring weather will change over the coming months and it is forecast we are going to be having another hot and dry summer with temperatures hitting the high 40s at times.

With the hot weather comes the greater risk of fires resulting from even the smallest spark. A mower can hit a small rock and quickly set fire to the dry grass.

Emergency service agencies have begun preparations while thousands of volunteer emergency service workers remain on standby to respond to any emergency.

It is important that people in the community understand the risks and are actively prepared should the worst happen and take all precautions to prevent fire getting started.

The Victorian Government Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Lisa Neville said, “Victorians should start developing a fire action plan for themselves, their families and their pets, discussing it and even practising it so that everyone is ready to act.”

Victorians can stay informed of emergency warnings by tuning into the ABC as well as commercial and community radio station, or by phoning the VicEmergency hotline on 1800 226 226.
