SHEPPARTON has a large Italian community and locals are being encouraged to help celebrate it with a special, family friendly salami and wine tasting evening.

Running at the Shepparton Italian Social Club on November 17 from 6:30pm, locals are also being encouraged to enter their wine and salami for judging, with entries closing on November 14. The five salami judges will pick the winner based on taste, aroma, overall appearance and colour, with the three wine judges also choosing their preferred winner under similar categories.

Event organiser, Melisha Iaria said, “I had been to other tasting events like this around Kyabram and other areas and thought, why isn’t there anything like this in Shepparton. The tradition of salami making is dying and we want to help keep it alive.

“We have a large Italian community here in Shepparton so we are looking forward to the entries coming in.

“On the night we will also have the Nick Tenace band, door prizes, raffles and a people’s choice award, so it will be a fun, family friendly night.”

Tickets are $50 and under 12 are $20 and can be purchased by calling Cathy Crespan on 0418 577 140 or Vince Sagoleo on 0407 292 796.
