THE tennis courts were all a buzz at Parramatta Tennis Centre in Sydney last week when eight regional Victorian tennis talents put their skills to the test representing the state at the national Foundation Cup Interstate Challenge.
Selected based on their performances at the under 13’s John Fitzgerald and under 13’s Foundation Cup last year the eight young rising tennis stars attended the four day event, held from Monday, January 9 until Thursday January 12, where they were also treated to a day of enjoyment at the world class Apia Sydney International.
Among those chosen to represent Victoria, 13 year old Layla Simmie from Kialla made it through to the Grand Final telling The Adviser her team came runner up and that it was a great experience.
“It was pretty exciting to have been chosen to represent Victoria.”
“There were a lot of good tennis players but it was a pretty good experience,” Layla said.
Tennis Victoria’s Player Development Coordinator, Emily Arnott said it was a great opportunity for players from regional areas to be recognised for their tennis abilities and commitment to the sport.
“To have an event of this nature that is only open to regional kids is fantastic,” Ms Arnott said.
