Local club takes honours

Photo: Supplied.SHEPPARTON South Soccer Club has won the inaugural Gino’s Pizza and Pasta Cup after claiming the senior match against South Melbourne 4-3 at McEwen Reserve, Shepparton recently.
The two clubs took each other on in a gala day that also featured three junior matches. South Melbourne won two of the three junior matches while the other contest finished in an entertaining draw.
Shepparton South President Gino Cirillo said the day proved a huge success for the club.
“There was a really great turn out on the day and there were also some good results for the club,” he said.
He said the gala event could not have been a success without all the hard work from everyone involved with planning the day.
“I would like to thank South Melbourne Soccer Club, the committee for all their hard work, the volunteers, parents and players for making it such a wonderful day,” he said.
South Melbourne President, Leo Athanasakis said it was a pleasure to be involved with such a wonderful club and group of people.
“I would like to say thank you to Gino and his committee for everything they did for us on Sunday,” he said.
“It was a huge honour to send the teams down to Shepparton for the games.”
Shepparton South will head to South Melbourne for the second installment of the cup next year.
