Local heritage left to rubble

Dear editor,

The heritage controls introduced by the Greater Shepparton City Council have been nothing but a mess. Many properties were reduced to rubble at the mention of heritage control and now there seems to be a very uneven selection of properties selected for coverage. The unlucky few that have received notice of Heritage Overlay on their properties should ask council for the list of properties that are covered by this overlay. Then take a walk around your area, taking note of the addresses that are of significant age, design and character that should be included in this heritage control but are not on the list. It is very surprising to see what has not been included. If the council wants to make up for the years of destruction of history in this area, there needs to be a fair selection of properties that are of genuine value to a heritage list.

Yours sincerely,

Roger Perry

Shepparton.
