THERE is no better way to celebrate the 10th Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Awards than to see local resident, Damon Vasterink nominated for the My Sport Live Male Sportsperson of the Year award.

Damon has overcome the stigma attached to those with a disability and has demonstrated a great strength through his participation in competing at local, state and national taekwondo competitions.

Damon has competed against people from all around Victoria and has taken gold medals from interclub competitions at Koyro Taekwondo Shepparton. In July of 2018 he received a silver medal in the TVI Winter Open. In September 2018 he scored a gold medal at the Victorian State Championship Selections and was
selected to compete in the Australian Championship. Also in September 2018, he competed in the 2018 Taekwondo Australian National Championship and received a silver medal.

Damon said, “Taekwondo is my favourite sport. I like to practice with Sammy Rachele each week and learn new skills. Taekwondo helps to keep me fit and healthy.

“I am very excited and proud to be nominated for the award. Thank you to everyone who has supported me to achieve the nomination.”

This night of nights for the disability sporting sector will be held on Wednesday, May 22.
