THERE are several ways to make a child happy. You can provide a nurturing learning environment, give them attention and watch them grow. If that fails, you can always give them ice cream.

For Shepparton’s Mia Ginga, she has plenty of experience in doing both.

The former kindergarten teacher has spent a lifetime looking after children, and now feels just at home running Wendy’s Milk Bar at Kialla’s Riverside Plaza.

Mia is a genius with cakes. Years of doing arts and crafts with children prepared her perfectly to learn the fine art of cake decorating at Wendy’s.

She now makes custom cakes for birthdays, retirement parties, or baby gender-reveals. She’s even made cakes for divorce parties.

“Why it’s a happy moment when someone gets divorced, I didn’t even know,” she said.

“But he looked happy, so I made him the cake he wanted. I couldn’t even put it in the display cabinet because it was a bit rude.”

Celebrations aside, Mia said the best part of her job is seeing happy people.

“I always love the look on kids’ faces when you give them ice cream,” she said.

Wendy’s Milk Bar is at Riverside Plaza in Kialla, on the Goulburn Valley Highway. Dairy-free and gluten-free pre-made cakes are available, and all menu items are now available for order and delivery via Menulog.
