THE new $1.15 million regional hockey/tennis facility, located on the Echuca College grounds, was officially opened during the week.
Shire of Campaspe Deputy Mayor, Cr Marion Riley opened the facility, joined by project partners, Goulburn Valley Hockey Association, Echuca Moama Hockey Club, Echuca South Tennis Club and the Echuca College.
The facility caters for one full sized hockey field, as well as 12 tennis courts. The synthetic turf surface is under-layed by a rubber shock-pad, providing a non-water dependent playing surface.
“The project is a great example of a multi use facility, with partnerships between the hockey association, hockey club, tennis club, Echuca College, State Government and the Shire of Campaspe,” Cr Riley said.
“Its location within the Echuca College grounds enables the facility to have maximum use, during the week as well as weekends.”
Cr Riley recognised that the project had been very complex to deliver and congratulated all involved.
“Despite a number of set-backs in the completion of the project, it was delivered on budget,” she said.
The project received $500,000 from the State Government’s Sport and Recreation Major Facilities fund, with other funding partners being:
• $350,000 Shire of Campaspe
• $150,000 from Echuca College
• $40,000 from Goulburn Valley Hockey Association
• $30,000 from Echuca Moama Hockey Club
• $20,000 from Echuca South Tennis Club
The completion of the project is very timely for the Echuca Moama Hockey Club with training and registrations commencing last Thursday.
