LOCAL Euroa man, James Carter is now able to safely access Anderson Street railway underpass on his scooter after raising accessibility issues with council’s Access and Disability Advisory Committee (ADAC).

Mr Carter was having trouble accessing the path to the railway underpass at the corner of Frost Street and Kirkland Avenue with his scooter.

“The gravel contained broken glass and bindii, causing punctures in wheelchairs, scooters, bikes and prams,” Mr Carter said.

After raising the issue, council sealed the edge of the road and the walking track that goes under the railway line so it is now one continuous piece of smooth bitumen.

Mr Carter said the upgrade has allowed him to safely access the underpass on his scooter and encourages anyone with accessibility needs or concerns to contact council.

“ADAC helps identify things that sometimes aren’t always obvious to an able person,” Mr Carter said.

“For example, people in wheelchairs may suffer from a back injury, so travelling on uneven or bumpy footpaths can exacerbate the back problem.”
