O’Shea named first ever director of umpiring

IN A move that will help lead local umpiring forward, Cruze O’Shea has been named as the first ever AFL Goulburn Murray Region Director of Umpiring.

O’Shea, who will commence his role on April 1, will be the first point of call for all clubs and leagues who have umpiring questions and concerns and comes with a wealth of knowledge.

Being well known to the umpiring community after having umpired with the Goulburn Valley Football Umpires’ Association since 2007, O’Shea was the award recipient of the AFL Victoria Golden Whistle in 2008.

He has also umpired several senior grand finals with the Goulburn Valley Football Umpiring Association and was a member of the VFL Development Squad where he umpired 12 state league games.

Region general manager, Jamie Macri said, “Alongside Cruze’s umpiring experience he has excellent administration skills which will add to the professionalism of the new position.

“Cruze will also promote and develop umpiring across the Goulburn Valley Region through managing recruitment and the V/Line Umpire Academy. He will also co-ordinate the tribunal and sponsorship.

“We wish Cruze all the best in his new role and welcome him to the AFL Goulburn Murray Regional Administration Centre.”
