MORE than 1,100 players have taken to the tennis courts across Shepparton and Mooroopna this week to take part in Tennis Victoria’s Country Week competition.

Being the second time the event has been held in the region, competitors from across 192 teams are currently playing off for the chance to lift a trophy in one of the 23 grades on offer.

At the event kick-off on Monday five new Country Week Legends were also announced, including local Kyabram resident, Greg Tarrant.

Greg said, “I am very excited and honoured to have been awarded. It means a lot to have people nominate me for such an award.

“I have been playing tennis since I was 10 years old and have been taking part in the country week tennis events since 1976 and have only missed two.

“It’s an amazing event and is something you won’t see anywhere else in Victoria. It’s very well run.”
