RESIDENTS of Lemnos will soon see one of its most well known small businesses close its doors, as Australia Post recently advised that the licensed post office would be closing.
While the only service operating from the Lemnos Post Office at this stage is the collection of mail, Australia Post has regrettably acknowledged it may not be able to notify the customers of Lemnos as efficiently as they normally would due to the time frame of the closure.
Federal Member for Murray, Dr Sharman Stone, expressed deep regret at the closure and wished the Licensee well.
“The Lemnos Post Office has been operating for many years now. The closure of a well known small business in a small community is always hard to accept.
“To assist with mailing, a nest of boxes will be installed at the same location as the post office sometime next week. Australia Post will advise of the exact date as to when sorting the mail into the boxes will commence.
“The locals at Lemnos should be given all the assistance they need with their mailing until a further decision is made on whether the post office will reopen.
“Small businesses including all of our shops and farms are the lifeblood of our communities. They are the real creators of jobs. The Federal Government should always ensure there is ongoing support for them,” Dr Stone said.
