Red Cross is recruiting volunteers

With summer expected to be hotter and drier than average, Red Cross is recruiting volunteers to take a leading role in supporting emergency relief efforts.

“Australia is prone to a range of natural disasters and emergencies – from bushfires and floods to cyclones – and every year thousands of people across the country are affected in some way,” says Kate Siebert, Red Cross manager emergency services Victoria.

“Here at home in Victoria, people turn to Red Cross for assistance in a disaster. During such times, our volunteers provide those affected with much-needed emotional and practical support.

“With drier than average conditions, hotter temperatures and increased fire danger, Red Cross is ramping up efforts and recruiting teams of volunteers to help communities before, during and after emergencies.

“Whether you’re someone who wants help local people in the aftermath of an emergency, or take a lead role in managing a team of volunteers and even representing Red Cross at important community meetings, we encourage you to apply,” says Kate.
