For the last five years, Echuca-Moama has registered a local team to Run Melbourne called Johnno’s Run, to help raise money for Community Living and Respite Services’ (CLRS) Opening Doors Project.

From humble beginnings, the project started in 2014 when Echuca local, Brady Johnson, messaged CLRS chief executive Suzanna Barry on Facebook asking what he could do to help raise money. The rest, is history.

Originally, 14 participants from Echuca-Moama took part in the Run Melbourne event. Since then, Johnno’s Run has only expanded stratospherically, raising a grand total of around $275,000-$280,000 each year over the last five years and attracting attention from the highest levels of parliament.

Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison and Federal Member for Nicholls, Damian Drum, showed their support for Johnno’s Run on Sunday, participating in the event to raise funds to assist those with disabilities who live independently in Echuca-Moama.

“It was fantastic to tell the Prime Minister about Johnno’s Run, a great example of how Goulburn Valley communities pull together to support important causes,” Mr Drum said.

“I find it especially fantastic that Johnno’s Run supporters get the added bonus of physical activity and social interaction while providing lasting support to their community.”
