A VISIT from Shadow Treasurer, Michael O’Brien last week, showed the former coalition’s concern for the lack of interest and investment in the Goulburn Valley shown by the Labor Government.
Michael said, “A lot of money was put into Shepparton by the former Government, but we knew there was more to do and we were prepared to do it. Unfortunately the current government seems to have backed away from that and that’s a real shame for Shepparton, because Shepparton does deserve better.
“We’ve seen that the GV Health does need an upgrade and we need to see some real work in expanding those facilities.
“We understand there is a lot of concern in Shepparton’s rail network. The people want to see more frequent services to and from Melbourne and we would certainly like to see that happen.
“We had some money on the table in making the bypass a reality. I’ve never seen a government get elected who hasn’t promised a single thing to Shepparton. Labor needs to stop neglecting this area.”
Member for Northern Victoria, Wendy Lovell said, “Shepparton is where my heart is and it’s disappointing to fight for a number of years to get a commitment for a hospital and you just have that in grasp, have the commitment there and then for a change of government to come in and lose that has been a tremendous disappointment to me.
“I will be fighting for all industry in the Goulburn Valley to make sure that we get good investment in this area, jobs growth and that our young people have the opportunities for education and employment.”
