Shepparton a sporting chance at awards

Editor October 26, 2011

MEMBER for Shepparton, Jeanette Powell is encouraging Shepparton district residents to nominate for the 2011 Victorian Government’s Sport and Recreation Awards.
The Sport and Recreation Awards are open to private, public or community sector organisations or individuals that contribute to sport and recreation in Victoria.
Mrs Powell said the awards recognise outstanding individuals such as successful players, coaches and organisers, but are also an opportunity to acknowledge the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes every day.
“With so many sport and recreation clubs in the Shepparton district, there are plenty of people and organisations worthy of an award,” Mrs Powell said.
“Shepparton has a rich sporting history and is or has been home to many national and international sporting champions.
“Shepparton is a great place to launch a career in sport and a great place to enjoy a social game of sport and that needs to be recognised, encouraged and rewarded.
“An Award nomination is a fitting way to recognise the dedication of individuals and organisations.
“I encourage everyone to nominate those who have made a difference through their involvement in sport and recreation,” Mrs Powell said.
The 2011 Victorian Government’s Community Sport and Recreation Awards will be held at the MCG on Wednesday, November 30, and will honour individuals, teams or clubs with cash prizes across the following nine categories:
