Photo: Alicia Zeqir.LOCAL Shepparton painter, John Crawford from John Crawford Painters and Decorators was recently recognised for his contribution to environmentally sustainable painting practices, at the Master Painters Association of Victoria (MPAV) annual awards.
The modest winner said the award came as a complete surprise to him, “We weren’t expecting to win and I was quite surprised,” John said. “I thought someone from Melbourne would win for sure.”
Over the years, John has invested not only capital, but considerable time and effort in creating and maintaining an environmentally friendly business.
More than two yeas of study qualified John as a registered Enviropainter, providing him with the skills and knowledge to identify best practices and resources for sustainable painting.
“Gone are the days of painters washing their paint brushes down the drain,” John said. “The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) are really clamping down and it’s a good thing.”
“We simply do whatever we can to reduce the carbon impact. Everything we do helps.”
The awards event was attended by Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade Richard Dalla-Riva.
Mr Dalla-Riva congratulated the recipients and commended the sector’s valuable work and contribution to Victoria.
