THE senior and junior Shepparton & Youth Club United Cricket Club teams were recently able to honour the late Greg Sidebottom, when both came out on top during special match games played against the GVFL Umpires Association that were played in memory of the local sporting identity.

Greg, who sadly passed away after suffering a heart attack while umpiring a football match last year, was heavily involved with both the GVFL Umpires Association and Shepparton & Youth Club United Cricket Club, and to help honour his involvement in both sports each club formed two teams (junior and senior players) and played two T/20 games.

Greg’s sons, Warren and Nick Sidebottom played in the senior match on opposite teams, with Nick playing in the Shepparton & Youth Club United Cricket Club team and Warren playing in the GVFL Umpires Association team.

Shepparton & Youth Club United Cricket Club president, Tony Giblin said, “It was a real family orientated, casual and happy go lucky night. It was something that Greg would have enjoyed himself.

“We are planning another honour match next year and keep this going on an annual basis.”
