THE winter is over and the sun is making for beautiful days to be out in the garden when it is time to tackle some of those jobs that you have been avoiding.

Start with these tasks to get your garden onto a solid footing for summer.

  1. Check for signs of growth

Cut back growth and shape plants of all the scraggly bits.

  1. Prepare garden beds

Remove winter mulch from around perennials and if already well composted, work into the top layer of the soil. Clear away all other debris.

  1. Prune

Now is the time to trim fruit trees. Prune before buds begin to break into bloom.

  1. Divide perennials

A budget-friendly way to fill your garden with more plants or share them with friends is to divide any perennials just before their Spring growth has begun.

  1. Perform basic maintenance

Clean up garden furniture and pathways so it is ready for relaxing on a warm day while daylight saving extends the time we can be outdoors.

  1. Plant veggies

Get those spring veggies planted and take advantage of the warm mild weather and be ready to harvest when Summer starts.
