WHILE the rest of the country has been glued to Australia’s top sporting athletes at the London 2012 Olympics, students from Bourchier Street Primary School showed off their Olympic spirit, holding a special ‘Bourchier Olympics’ last week.
Students from prep through to grade six dressed in the nationality of the countries they were representing and after a grand opening ceremony, took part in a range of games including balloon volleyball, hoop discuss, scooter race, foxtail throw, newspaper hockey, Penny skateboard race and finished the day off with a spectacular closing ceremony.
Bourchier Street Primary School Community Liaison Officer, Denise Whyte said, “It was great to see all of the kids getting into the Olympic spirit.
“The Olympics day was about the grade six students taking on a leadership role as they organised the event and supervised all the activities. They did a brilliant job and the day displayed the importance of team spirit and fair play, as well as promoting physical activity,” Denise said.
