SHEPPARTON will soon be among those at the forefront of cotton distribution as Sunshine State giant, Queensland Cotton, prepares to make the move to the Goulburn Valley.
After securing a storage facility along Numurkah Road in Shepparton which is set to be receiving bales within the next month, Queensland Cotton will soon be utilising Shepparton’s prime location and proximity to Victoria’s capital to pack and transport cotton to warehouses in Melbourne.
AS a leader in the international cotton market and acting as a major supplier of premium cotton to the world’s textile markets, Queensland Cotton provides quality products and services, holding a valued relationship with its suppliers, growers and cotton spinners from across the globe.
Trading and Exports Manager at Queensland Cotton, Phil Ryan spoke with The Adviser saying there will be some casual work available for locals including for those with a forklift licence.
“We were looking for additional capacity and the facility in Shepparton was available, giving us the ability to pack and export from this facility, in a more cost effective way.
“There has been a major expansion of cotton production in the southern regions including Murrumbidgee, Lachlan and Macquarie Valleys and that’s where Shepparton works in fairly well for us.
“The other attraction of the Shepparton Region is it is in good proximity to pools of transport, which is important when you are moving large quantities of cotton.
“For the future there is certainly the possibility to expand the commodities to be exported from the Shepparton Region,” Phil said.
