A collection of superheroes were greeting clients at GV Vets last Friday, in a show of support for staff member, Katherine Byrne who lost her son, Elijah, to heart failure last year.

Elijah Byrne was airlifted to Royal Children’s Hospital with breathing difficulties at just four days old and he spent the first five weeks of his life in intensive care. He had several open-heart surgeries within that time and sadly, passed away at just five months old.

Mrs Byrne encouraged her workplace to get on board hosting a HeartKids Superhero Boss Day, to raise awareness for HeartKids following the incredible support her family received from the organisation while in the hospital.

HeartKids is the only national Profit for Purpose charity dedicated to supporting Australians of all ages impacted by congenital or acquired heart disease. The charity drives world-class research into the causes, treatment and management of congenital heart disease and has committed over $3.5 million to date.

GV Vets staff are inviting the community to contribute to fundraising by donating at the clinic, or purchasing a superhero animal bandana for $5. Otherwise, you can contribute online by following GV Vets on Facebook and following the links to ‘Elijah Our Little Warrior.’ Fundraising will be open until June 30.
