IN just three weeks, local lawn bowls player and coach, Josh Thornton will be taking on competitors in Lawn Bowls at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, joining Victorians, Barrie Lester, Carla Krizanic and Ken Hanson on the bowls team.

The East Shepparton coach will compete on the Gold Coast as part of the para-sport team and says it’s amazing and to be picked for your country for anything is an amazing accomplishment.

“Competing in the Commonwealth Games in your home country…I don’t have words to explain it all.

“My friends and family will get to share this experience with me. They’ll all get to come along and watch and hopefully see some success.

“New Zealand would probably have to be our main competition and we managed to get a win over them in November last year, but they will be a tough team to beat. South Africa won in Glasgow so whilst I’ve never played against them I assume they are going to be a hard team to beat.”

The 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4 to 15 at the Gold Coast.
