Toolamba in line to be growth centre

Identified in 2011 as an area of future growth in the Greater Shepparton Housing Strategy 2011, Toolamba has only experienced gradual growth in the intervening years.

More recently, some landowners have expressed interest in having their rural properties rezoned and subdivided to accommodate renewed housing growth to the west.

Greater Shepparton City Council are presently seeking feedback from the community on the Draft Toolamba Growth Plan with submissions closing on 17 February. The draft plan can be downloaded from the council website.

With the future construction of an interchange with the Shepparton Bypass at Bridge Road, the potential impacts of residential demand increases the importance of ensuring that growth in the Toolamba township is both appropriate and sustainable.

Greater Shepparton City Council director sustainable development, Geraldine Christou, said “Residents’ feedback is an important component of the Draft Growth Plan. There are a lot of factors that have to be taken into consideration in planning for the future, so having the community’s ‘on the ground’ perspective is imperative to maximise collective benefits and minimise potential issues.”

Details of the draft plan can be viewed on council’s website at http://greatershepparton.com.au/consultation.
