As the community is locked down to essential travel and the COVID-19 virus is brought under control, GV Health has played an integral role in the detection and suppression for this region.

GV Health has now tested more than 1,556 people since February 21, 2020, with more than 400 people tested over the past week as a result of the State Government’s new testing criteria.

Matt Sharp, GV Health CEO said “The State Government has expanded the testing criteria for people that may have COVID-19 in order to better track the spread of the virus in the community,

“Testing is now based on the clinical symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of age or occupation.

“These symptoms include any new fever or chills, acute respiratory infection such as a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath, headache, runny or stuffy nose or the loss of the sense of smell.”

Mr Sharp said it was imperative that people continue to keep their regular GP appointments and continue to seek medical treatment if they are unwell.

He also noted the availability of GV Health’s emergency services has not changed in light of COVID-19 and urged people to not delay seeking treatment for emergency health conditions.

In accordance with the National Cabinet decision of 21 April 2020, GV Health will increase the availability of elective surgery in a safe and equitable way from Monday, April 27, 2020.
